Question: What is Motability?

Answer: Motability is a national charity that enables people with disabilities to use a brand new car for three years to help them or their nominated drivers to get around. The scheme entitles you to a car for three years, with breakdown cover for the duration, road tax, insurance for up to three drivers and the cost of maintenance and servicing paid for by the charity. The vehicle can be used up to a total mileage of 60,000 miles at the end of 3 years.

Question: Am I eligible?

Answer: If a person with a disability receives either “Higher rate mobility component of the disability living allowance” or “War pensioners mobility supplement” they or an appointee on their behalf are entitled to a vehicle on the Motability Scheme.

Question: What does it cost me?

Answer: In order to have a car on Motability, the person who receives the higher rate component or war pensioners supplement have to sacrifice some or all of that 4 weekly payment to obtain a vehicle. In some instances there will be an advance payment on certain vehicles which is payable on collection of your new car.

Question: What documents do I need to bring with me to order a vehicle?

Answer: All we need to start your application are driving licenses (both counterpart and card for new type) for a maximum of two drivers (a third driver can be added 48 hours after you have taken delivery of your new car), the award letter for the person with the Higher rate component or War pensioners supplement and a utility bill dated within the last 90 days for proof of address.
